Somerset Young Carers Project

Somerset Young Carers Project

If you are under 18 years old and look after someone in your family who has a drug or alcohol problem then you maybe a young carer.

It may be difficult to cope with studying, getting to school or college on time, or meeting friends because you are a carer.

In Somerset there is a Young Carers Project that exists to provide support, advice and respite breaks for children and young people aged 8 – 18 who have substantial caring responsibilities at home.

The Young Carers Project can help you in a number of ways:

  • They can answer your questions and give you advice.
  • They can give you useful information, which can help you and your family.
  • They can introduce you to other young people who are in similar situations to you.
  • They can speak out for you, making sure that your feelings and wishes are heard.
  • They run groups, where you can take part in exciting and new activities, have a break from home life, and have fun with friends.

There are Young Carers workers who understand how difficult it can be for you, and can help you work things out.

Telephone: Somerset Direct – 0845 3459122 for information about Young Carers support in your area.
