Local Research and Evaluation

As part of the programme of work, SDAP undertakes a number of pieces of research and evaluation which help us to understand what the local situation is concerning an issue such as hidden harm (childrern of drug and alcohol using parents); or how a pilot has worked for Somerset such the recent pilot projects on how we can best tackle alcohol problems and offer people help.  These downloads cover some of our most recent projects.

Somerset Supporting Carers Needs Study

1st January 2009

This work was undertaken by Evidence Base Ltd. It is an in depth study to identify the support needs of carers and family members affected by the substance misuse of others in Somerset to inform future service provision.

Hidden Harm Identifying A Way Forward For Somerset

1st June 2008

This work was undertaken by Evidence Base Ltd. It is a study of Hidden Harm research, policy and practice; and aims to gather sufficient evidence to enable the
SDAP to develop a local strategy to identify and tackle Hidden Harm within the county.

Evaluation of HHYPE Pilot

1st October 2010

This work was undertaken by Lorna Templeton, independent researcher. It is an evaluation of a pilot group programme for young people affected by parental substance misuse which took place in Mendip, to inform county wide roll out.

Evaluation Somerset Pharmacist NMP Final Report

1st November 2010

This work was undertaken by Jenny Scott, University of Bath. It is an evaluation of a 2 year pilot project to introduce pharmacist non-medical prescribing (NMP) into the specialist drug treatment service provided by Turning
Point.

Somerset Shared Care Guide

1st November 2010

This work was undertaken by Jenny Scott, University of Bath. It is an evaluation of shared care services in Somerset from the client’s perspective, informed by information provided by 70 individuals, representing just under one third of shared care clients.

Hidden Harm Summary Report

1st December 2010

This is a short needs assessment to establish a baseline position for Somerset in relation to safeguarding children and substance misusing parents.

This work was undertaken by Nicholas Day Associates on behalf of SDAP and in association with partners.

Windows of opportunity - alcohol pilots evaluation

1st February 2013

This evaluation of SDAPs alcohol pilot projects was undertaken by Lorna Templeton on behalf of SDAP. It evaluated 8 of the pilots reporting on progress, challenges faced learning. It includes a review of the literature for each pilot to give the work context.
